Oculus App Content – A New Place For Independent Developers
In terms of oculus app content, we’re familiar with the Oculus storefront and its strict curation. This is how we maintain the quality of games and apps high, and stop poor-quality apps from getting past. This makes it difficult for independent developers to create their VR content on Oculus.
To combat this issue Oculus recently introduced a new program called “App Lab” to give independent developers an official place to share their VR content without going through the rigorous curation process of the Oculus storefront. The App Lab is very similar to the Oculus storefront. You can browse and download apps just as you would on the traditional virtual storefront. However, it’s much less than curated.
If your app performs well in the App Lab it may be promoted to the Oculus oculus rift game design Storefront and gain more visibility and reach a wider audience. However this isn’t solely based on the number of downloads, but also on factors like retention metrics along with long-term profitability, development team, etc.
App Lab is a great way to explore the full variety of Oculus Quest applications. There are a variety of exciting games and experiences to play, including popular nongames like Tilt Brush which turns your headset in to an immersive art studio. There’s also a bunch of amazing VR media apps such as Quill Theater, which showcases some amazing community created films and animations.
